Excerpts from the Artist's Mind

Excerpts from the Artist's Mind

Art in any form is precious. Paint. Music. Dance. Write. Digital. Sculpt. All of it.

An inspiration is a happy moment that takes us by surprise ... an untroubled state of mind. Of course, we know that an untroubled state of mind cannot last, so we say inspiration comes and goes, but it is there all the time waiting for us to be untroubled again. - Agnes Martin

I always had a creative bend. This restless energy to create something. To give something a form. When ever I tried, it wouldn't come off as I saw it in my mind's eye and that would really turn me off. But eventually with consistency and diligence, yes even artists need to do that, I am able to tap my inner energy. I recall this one particular incident the physical sensation was that my head was lifting off my shoulders. I felt weightless. And I had precisely no sense of my self. It was a reality completely without ego, which left out all thought about the aftereffects. Additionally, I had no sense of my body. I didn’t know who I was or where I was. I was naturally a spirit, in a state of pure bliss.

Every day ... I am more anxious to write exactly what I feel, and to have even less regard than ever to other's opinions; and when I have composed a piece just as it sprang from my heart , then I have done my duty towards it; and whether it brings hereafter fame, honour, snuff-boxes gets, it is a matter of indifference to me. - Felix Mendelssohn

Reading these words had such a profound effect on me. It was as if my feelings were being worded by another soul. A certain kinship is felt amongst the artists when they are true to themselves. There is no competition there is only expression of oneself. And all else is frivolous.

I felt a twinge, a curious yearning, imperceptible to passersby, my mother, the trees, or the clouds. - Patti Smith

I believe our imagination is our escape and our reality. What we do for a living that is, artists — is we live on the energy of our imagination. Our imagination projects us to fulfil our work. And it is the one sure measure of authenticity, is to use your imagination to explore realities.

No artist is pleased .. There is only a queer divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others. - Martha Graham

Yes that feeling of being alive the pure living energy of life thats all the high we need.
